Katana _ Aerial-Aquatic Ship

The Toolian Elves' royal airships, aptly named, 'Katana', not because katanas actually exist in my stories, but rather because their bow-shape generally looks like a katana...
*shrug*

I thought long and hard about giving it an Arillusian name, to better fit in the story...but nothing sounds good to me...
and katana is so universal to mankind outside of my little world....that it just makes sense to leave it at that.

Ahem...
anywho... Airships on Arillus use engines not so much for propulsion as they do for maneuvering. Such engines are of course called 'rudder engines'.
They get their bouyancy/floatation from two gases kept in separate containers. Combined the gases suffer chemical reaction. The excess is ejected as a slight puff of dust and all that's left is hyper-lite gas similar to hydrogen.

The Katana is an armed vessel unlike others of Toolian design, containing a bow-mounted ballista, and two rapid-fire railguns posted on the katamaran-like rudder-engine decks, which are shielded by the adjustable 'wings'. The shield-like wings are not useless and are not shields, but rather properly bowed like traditional wings and sails to help with neither propulsion or lift, but rather stabilization, creating pull in either direction that balances the rather thin-hulled ship in the air. The level of adjustment is dependant upon velocity, wind conditions, and load.

But, being Elves, the Toolian, like the Vara, have adapted magick to aid in the ship's propulsion. Sails have been subject to special creation often imbued with arcane elemental amplification spells and runes and designs, that the wind, often no more than a breeze which is picked up can be many times more powerful than it would be naturally. Of course, at higher elevations, this effect is dramatically increased. The top speeds listed are of course, without the aide of magickally enhanced sails. With such sails, travel can be a bit frightening to the virgin-flyer and can often approach astounding speeds.
