Description

Just two animals from Arillus and how they stack up against their humanoid competition...
hehe

The Dwarven "Mauler", is a drab, dark, stone colored gray animal, whose uppermost backsides(as shown) are snow-white, as it is a high-mountain bear. It is perfectly camoflaged to look like a small lump of snow-covered stone as it is primarily an ambush hunter with incredibly slow metabolism and great patience. But, don't let its sluggish behavior fool you. It is terribly powerful and capable of amazing feats of strength. The Dulgnarian Dwarves whom share the Dragluln Mts. with this ferocious beast, have inducted it into their military as special shock-cavalry. The dwarf whom rides one of these giants, has to be a hardy fellow, even for his kin, due to the heights involved. Once trained, (from very young to adulthood) the Mauler can be noted to develop a very doting behavior towards its rider and will stop at literally nothing to protect the dwarf on its back. Adversely, the Dwarf can do little fighting from on high, but he can protect the bear's great flanks with polearms, hatchets or crossbows if the need arises.

The Qu'chael' (meaning, cat-hound) is actually a canine, who some say the Elves actually created in ancient times, straight out of the ether of magick and elements. But regardless of origin, the Qu'chael' is highly prized and revered by the Elves. Lightweight for their size, the Qu'chael is still a very powerful animal that can weigh as much as a very large horse. However, built for speed, the Qu'chael blows away the competition when it comes to steeds and mounts. With the lightweight body of an elf on its back, the Qu'chael can still reach the astonishing pace of nearly 80 knots, which is roughly 90 mph or 148 km for short durations. At such speed, the hound covers ground at roughly 55 feet per stride. Its great tail, called a ';plume' is used as a counterbalance for high-speed maneuvering, as well as doubling as a sort of flag for potential mates and to establish pecking order or alpha males/females within a group. The hound is roughly 6 ft. tall and can be anywhere from 18 to 24 feet long from nose to the end of its tail at adulthood, and coloration varies only slightly, as all have white underbellies and green topcoats with dark markings, spots and rosettes combined. The green can vary from deep and dark to pale, and the markings can vary from black to dark gray to brown.
